Benson F. (Buzz) Roberts

Benson F. (Buzz) Roberts served as President and CEO the National Association of Affordable Housing Lenders from 2015 to 2024. He currently serves as Vice Chair of True Ground Housing Partners (formerly Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing) and as a board member of the Center for Community Lending. Buzz also advises Morgan Stanley, NeighborWorks Capital, and AIC CEI-Boulos Opportunity Fund.

He was the Director of the Office of Small Business, Community Development and Housing Policy in the U.S. Treasury Department from 2011 to 2015 and Senior Vice President for Policy and Program Development at the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) where he worked from 1988 to 2015.

Buzz has helped to develop and refine the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit; the New Markets Tax Credit; the HOME housing partnerships program; regulatory changes to the Community Reinvestment Act; the Capital Magnet Fund; a Treasury-HUD partnership to finance affordable rental housing and federal bond guarantees for community development financial institutions. Buzz has written extensively about affordable housing and neighborhood revitalization.
