Evonne Klein, Connecticut’s housing commissioner, said the repairs were “critically needed” at the building, erected as a tool plant in 1864. The housing department contributed $5 million to the effort. “It really brings a vibrancy to this whole area where we have new businesses popping up, we have a weekly farmer’s market,” Klein said. “It just adds so much more to this wonderful neighborhood.”
